(Machine translated). AHL (i924a: 54-55) described the taxon according to a single copy of "O-Sanga Uham, 1200 m. Buala, Grasland, Cameroon. "This specimen is also available Today still in the fish collection of the ZMB, is however no longer in a very good State. Above all, the fin rays are largely broken off. The AHL "Large number of narrow light crossbands over the body" is today No longer perceptible. A small number of points on the specimen are alcohol failures.

The description of this specimen by AHL is very inadequate. HOLLY (1930: 214) improved some data AHLS, but also these improved values Does not significantly contribute to the description of panchax bualanum one of the Now known Aphyosemion species. AHL ordered P. bualanus in the kinship of A. lujae (BOULENGER, 1911) and A. cameronense (BOULENGER, 1903). HOLLY saw only a synonym for A. cameronense; However This author assigned the taxon A. cameronense very different forms, too Those which are clearly synonyms to A. exiguum

SCHEEL (1968: 133-1139) found that the type founding place Buala near the watershed Between the upper Sangha and the Uham Indentations Border between the Congo and the Chad. This is in today's Central African Republic. Loo km to the west of this type of locality began SCHEEL 1966 an Aphyosemion species, which he identified as Aphyosemion bualanum. Since Under the name Aphyosemion bualanum is a kind of the Cameroonian highlands From the far east of Nigeria to the west of Central Africa Republic.

In my opinion the holotype of Panchax bualanus AHL, 1924, is embodied But no kind from the subgeneration Kathetys HUBER, 1977 and is not with the , Which is understood since SCHEEL (1966). It is This specimen is usually a typical representative of the mesoaphyosemion subgenus RADDA, 1977. Until now, A. bualanum sensu SCHEEL was considered the furthest after The north-east advanced Aphyosemion species, BLACHE (1964: 222, 223), however, reported Nor from another from the Chad move, which he identified as A. cameronense. The drawing (p. 467, fig. 125) shows - even though it is not particularly detailed - That this type of sub-genus is to be assigned to Mesoaphyosemion, and not to cathews, For the dorsals and valleys are not pointedly extended. A. cameronense is however one Nature of the rainforest in Sudkamerun and Northgabun. Whether the animals, the BLUE before Had belonged to the same type as the type of A. bualanum is not with Certainty. Both forms can not be distinguished from each other, and The described drawing or color pattern is also similar; However The corresponding descriptions also differences.

Whether the animals of BLACHE agree with the holotype of Panchax bualanus, Be set; There is, however, no agreement Between the animal which AHL had been present, and the kind which SCHEEL had described as an APhyosenzioPz Baalamm identified. I see the following differences: The head and the snout The type of P. bualanztm are longer and the anterior is not so wedge-shaped, rather Roller-shaped and Ianger. The tail stem is shorter and larger than that of the SHEEL as A. bualanum. The approach of the caudal is very marked in the latter case wide; This does not appear to be the case with the type of P. bualanum, though The Caudale itself is almost entirely destroyed. Finally, the rear edge of the gill cap In the animals of Stieglier steeper than in the type of P. bualanum. Vnm total Appearance is the UmriBlinie of back and belly with A. bualamum Sensu SCHEEL is not so comparatively parallel, but stronger.

From all these circumstances I conclude, that it was very rash of SCHEEL, His fish, which he found 100 km from the type founding of Panchax bualanum alone Due to this fact and the very inadequate references to AHL as aphyosemion Bualanum. It is true that there remains a remainder in the face of the latter fact Of uncertainty, but still I mean that it is in the highlands of the Western Central African Republic, a different kind of Aphyosemion, the Ausselien In life we may not yet know, which at least as a tribe of the type found Has not yet come to us, and is identical with Panchax bualanus. The fish which SCHEEL had before him, however, coincided with Panchax elberti AHL, 1924 On the other hand; There is no doubt about this. SCHEEI. Was a synonym for P. elberti P. bualanus. The types are not very far apart. Only a collection At the type founding of P. bualanus, gave clear insight into the identity This fish; In my opinion, however, the so far known as Aphyosemion bualanum Known fish in reality correctly with Aphyosemion elberti (AHL, 1924).

Since AHL concerning the color description of Panchax bualanus ,, a large number Narrow light crossbinding for the body "and the animals sensu SCHEEL Red vertical stripes, which, in alcohol, are sure to fade as light streaks This could not, of course, be ruled out, that today's type Not identical to the AHL and has been interchanged. This It does not appear very probable, however, but here too there is only a collection On-site clarity.

Aphyosemion bualanum (AHL, 1924) (Tafel 11, Abb. F) Panchax bualanus: AHL, 1924": 54-55 - HOLLY, 1930: 211, 214 (P. bualanus als Synonym zu P. cameronensis). ?
